Department of English Literature (PC)

  On 19 th December 2025, the students of the department of English embarked on an educational visit to the Indian Express newspaper press. The staff at the press welcomed the students and provided an insightful introduction to the world of news publishing explaining the process of reporting, fact-checking, and the importance of verifying the authenticity of the information in interviews. 

  The annual magazine “Epoch” Volume 6 was released on 27.09.2025

  Ms. Persis Cynthiya E.I., Research Scholar was crowned as the 'Lit Queen' 

  The culmination of all the competitions of the English Department – “Daffodils 2025” was conducted on 27th September, 2025. The chief guests for the day were the Secretary, Rev. Sr. Alphonsa. KC and the Principal, Rev. Sr. Sheela VJ. The judges for the various onstage competitions were the alumnae of the department, Mrs. Monica Jonquil Ruth, English Teacher, Hebron School, Ooty and Mrs. Shaline S., Assistant Professor in English, Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore.The office bearers of the department were honored with badges as a mark of their position. Five onstage competitions were conducted with a display of talents chiefly centered on Singing, Dance, and Literary parade.

  The offstage competitions of the department of English “Daffodils 2025” commenced from 04 th August 2025 focusing on the Diamond Jubilee theme “Nature, Global Warming and Climatic Change.” The competitions include Mehendi, Nail Art, Epoch Front Cover Design, Poetry Writing, Literary Quiz, Flame Free Cooking, Spell Bee, Blackout Poetry, Short Story, Photography, Review Writing, Pot Painting, and Doodle Art. The judges for the off-stage competitions were the faculty members of our college.

  On 30 th September 2025, a special talk on “ Gender Violence ” was organized. Mrs. Reshma, a senior advocate, was the resourse person. She highlighted the increasing cases of gender-based violence and emphasized the importance of legal awareness among the public. Mrs. Reshma explained various laws and acts that protect women, and also shed light on the provisions under the Indian Penal Code related to crimes against women.

  On 17th September 2025, a workshop was organised on “Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviour: The Domino Effect” as part of the College’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration. The workshop, focused on promoting mental well-being among students. The resource person, Dr. Sonia Elizabeth Prasadam, a practicing mental health therapist, engaged students in a thought-provoking session on the importance of being mindful of one’s thought processes. 

  On 18th July 2025, a workshop was organised on “ Verbal Skills for AI Prompts ”. The resource person was Mrs. Gajalakshmi J., who shared valuable insights on crafting effective AI Prompts using precise language. She explained the significance of clarity, tone, and structure in prompt creation and engaged students through interactive tasks and examples.

  The Department of English organized an insightful career guidance talk titled " Beyond the Glass Ceiling: The World of Tomorrow " on 26th June 2025 at 2:00 PM in Room No. 11. The session was graced by Mrs. Gayathri Balasubramaniam, a distinguished alumna of the institution, author, and retired school teacher. In her address, Mrs. Gayathri emphasized the importance of resilience, self-belief, and vision in overcoming gender-based barriers in professional spaces. 

 

  The department is extremely glad and congratulates Ms. Adarsh M for successfully clearing the NET exam which was held in the month of December 2024.

As a part of the Atma Nirbhar activity, Women’s Health Camp was organised on 16/02/2025 at Yemagundu village. Approximately 150 villagers benefitted by these essential healthcare services.

  The Department organized a Free Medical Eye Camp on 16/02/2025 at Yemagundu village. 

  As part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan initiative, the Department of English, along with a team of 10 students conducted a door-to-door survey in Yemagundu village and a follow- up visit was scheduled in the second week of August 2024.

  As a part of Extension activities few students of III BA English were taken to the Government Higher Secondary School, Yedappalli from 05 /08 /2024 to 04/08/2024 and taught English to the school students. Few more students visited the college library from 12/08/2024 to 05/09/2024 and helped in the arrangement of books

  The students of the department undertook a trek to the picturesque Ralliah Dam on 11/12/2024 to create environmental awareness.

  In commemoration of Women’s Day, a talk on “Women Empowerment” was organised on 07/03/2025.

 The reading club of the department organised the student forum series and 12 sessions were conducted and 20 speakers made their presentations.

  The department witnessed the viva voce examination of five PhD scholars during this academic year.
